On August 27, 2014 al-Qaeda-linked terrorists kidnapped 43 United Nations peacekeepers, all Fiji nationals, inside Syria. Reuters reports that "it is the third time in two years that UNDOF troops [the U.N. force that has monitored the disengagement zone between Israel and Syria since the 1973 Arab-Israeli War] have been seized on the Syrian side of the demarcation zone...." As for Israel, "We're not doing anything, we're just watching," said an Israeli officer."
So while the UN system spends far more time condemning Israel than any other state, UN peacekeepers in the Middle East fear for their lives only from Arab and Muslim actors.
