Israel's proposed amendment to "Economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan," E/2018/L.19, called for the addition of the following paragraph:

"Also calls for the immediate release of the civilians and soldiers being held in Gaza by Hamas;"

The proposed amendment was rejected by the Economic and Social Council by a vote of 5 in favor (Canada, Colombia, Mexico, United States, Mexico), to 18 against (Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Chad, Ecuador, Guyana, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, South Africa, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, Vietnam) with 23 abstentions (Andorra, Belgium, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Romania, Russian Federation, Rwanda, Spain, United Kingdom).
