On September 7, 2016, a conference on antisemitism sponsored by Israel, Canada, the US, and the EU was held at the UN. At the conference, the President of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft of Denmark, said the following:
"Some of my closest lifelong friends are Jewish...It's not anti-Semitic to call for an end of the occupation and repression of the people of Palestine and to demand an end to illegal settlements and occupied Palestinian land. That call as well as our common tireless fight against any kind of hate and incitement is in line with what this General Assembly has expressed again and again."
