On November 2, 2016, the head of the UN Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) claimed Israel was created with the same brutality used by ISIS. UNRWA's Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl made his comments while presenting the agency's annual report to the General Assembly's Fourth Committee (a committee of the whole comprised of all 193 UN member states). In fact, Palestinians in Syria have been subject to brutal chemical weapon and barrel bomb attacks by Assad forces and beheadings by the Islamic State. Allegedly, just like the experiences of Palestinians during the 1948 and 1967 Arab-Israeli wars, according to Krähenbühl.
In his words:
"In Syria,... Palestine refugees struggle to survive in the devastated landscapes of Aleppo and Yarmouk, in the battlegrounds of Khan Eshieh and Dera'a, exposed to the destructive violence of opposition armed groups and the effects of governmental artillery fire. Young Palestine refugees from Syria, now understand in their hearts the fear and trauma that their families went through in 1948 and 1967."
