Sudan's Statement at General Assembly Debate on UN Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism

In its statement at the General Assembly session on the Secretary General's Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism on February 12, 2016, Sudan argued Islamist terror should be de-coupled from Islam, stereotyping should not happen, and Israel was to blame for violent extremism. In its words:

"The plan of action stresses that the phenomenon of violent extremism lacks a clear and agreed definition. It cannot be linked to any religion, region, nationality, civilization, or group. This has been clearly and explicitly stated in the preamble of the draft resolution adopted by the General Assembly today. This is an essential point that we have reiterated in order to avoid any stereotyping when talking about terrorism and violent extremism...We cannot talk about violent extremism without mentioning foreign occupation, which is the main incubator of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations as well as of violent extremism conducive to terrorism..."
