Two days after the observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Venezuelan ambassador to the UN accused the Jewish State of seeking to impose a "final solution" on the Palestinians. Speaking at an informal meeting of the UN Security Council held on May 6, 2016 to discuss "protection of the Palestinian civilian population," Venezuelan representative Rafael Ramirez equated Israel's exercise of self-defense in the face of Palestinian terror to the Nazi genocide that murdered over 6 million Jews. In his words:
"But what I want us to do is ask ourselves this question, and do so among ourselves as members of the Council: what does Israel plan to do with the Palestinians? Will they be disappeared? Does Israel seek probably to wage a final solution sort of solution as was perpetrated against the Jews?"
Just 3 of the 15 members of the Security Council objected to Venezuela's hateful language - the U.S., U.K., and France.
Venezuela's statement was only the latest comparison of Israelis to Nazis made at the UN. On April 27, 2016, the Palestinian representative to the UN Riyadh Mansour equated Palestinian terrorists with Jewish victims of the Holocaust, stating: "If you throw a stone...if you throw it at a moving car of the army or the terrorist settlers, they send you to jail for 20 years, and yet their representative in the Security Council...he paints them as terrorists. Guess what. All colonizers, all occupiers including those who suppressed the Warsaw uprising labelled those who were resisting them as terrorists."
