The Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights, a Palestinian UN-accredited non-governmental organization with special consultative status with the UN's Economic and Social Council, is using the Human Rights Council to wage a legal war against Israel by encouraging the International Criminal Court's examination of Israel's actions during the 2014 Gaza War. Al Mezan's lawfare attempt comes in a written statement to the UN Human Rights Council under the infamous agenda item 7, the permanent agenda item dedicated solely to the demonization of the Jewish state, which is scheduled for debate on June 19, 2017. As a UN-accredited NGO, the Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights is entitled to submit written statements, as well as to make oral statements, for consideration at the UN Human Rights Council.
In the words of the statement:
"We call on the HRC and members states to:
...
In accordance with previous accountability resolutions adopted by the HRC and the pending findings of the OHCHR's publication of its comprehensive review, to fully support the preliminary examination into the situation of Palestine being undertaken by the Office of the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Court so as to ensure that those responsible are held to account."
