Despite Obvious Iranian Government Brutality, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, Gives Iran a Pass.
According to the High Commissioner "The recent elections in Iran and the
subsequent protests over the result were a reminder of both the vitality of Iran's civil society and political life, but also of the towering constraints that peaceful activism faces" (page 8).
REALITY CHECK:
At least 69 people have
died following Iran's June election and the number is still growing. Some 4,000 people were initially detained while at least 300 are known to remain in custody today, subjected to
torture and rape.
