Today at the UN headquarters in New York, the comic book superhero, Wonder Woman, was declared a UN Honorary Ambassador for Empowerment of Women and Girls. Attending the event were Lynda Carter, the first actress to play as Wonder Woman, and Israeli model and actress Gal Gadot, who played Wonder Woman in the movie "Batman vs. Superman."
The affair was full of fanfare. T-shirts and posters were handed out. Dozens of members of the Girl Scouts were in attendance, being interviewed and taking pictures with the actresses.
Not all were enthused, however. "More than 1,000" of anonymous and 'concerned' UN staff members" signed an online petition "arguing that Wonder Woman was not an appropriate choice." Apparently no event involving an Israeli can go without denouncement at the United Nations.
