Demonization of Israel at UN "Human Rights" Council Hits Another Low

At its latest session, the UN Human Rights Council once again facilitated the familiar Palestinian tactic of appropriating Jewish history, this time to accuse Israel of committing "genocide" against Palestinians.

Speaking on September 23, 2016, at the UN Human Rights Council's permanent agenda item devoted to the demonization of Israel, Cuba and Nicaragua both accused the only democracy in the Middle East of committing one of humankind's most heinous crimes. Despite being initially warned by the President of the Human Rights Council about using appropriate language after the United States objected to the use of the term genocide, Cuba was allowed to repeat its slanderous accusation, and Nicaragua subsequently followed suit.

Their statements included the following:

Cuba: "Genocide against the Palestinian people must be brought to an end and those responsible and their accomplices should respond and should be held accountable to their crimes. We firmly believe –[Editor's note: In a point of order the United States objected to the use of the term genocide, and the President of the Human Rights Council reminded Cuba to use UN standard language when discussing a state.] I will continue with my statement now, Mr. President. Genocide against the Palestinian people must be brought to an end, and those responsible and their associates must respond and be held accountable for their crimes...""

Nicaragua: "We deplore that Israel continues its active policy of confiscation of territories, demolition of houses, destruction of infrastructure, arbitrary detentions, extrajudicial killings, the pillaging of natural resources and the continuation of illegal settlements, just to name a few. All of these policies are a systematic, sustained attempt to try to make a whole people disappear: This is a policy of genocide."
