UN adopts violent extremism resolution minus definition of violent extremism

Adopted by consensus on February 12, 2016

The General Assembly,

Reaffirming its determination to further strengthen the role, capacity, effectiveness and efficiency of the United Nations system,

Stressing that it is essential to address the threat posed by violent extremism as and when conducive to terrorism, and recognizing that violent extremism cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group,

1. Welcomes the initiative by the Secretary-General, and takes note of his Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism;

2. Decides to give further consideration to the Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism beginning in the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy review in June 2016 as well as in other relevant forums.
